Lesley displays hot bats against Mass Maritime

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - At Buckingham Field in Cambridge, the Lesley University softball team hosted their first two home games of the 2008 season in a double-header against Massachusetts Maritime Academy.  The Lynx won both games against the Buccaneers, winning 14-0 and 11-2.

In the first game, the Lesley offense exploded for 10 runs in the bottom half of the first inning to take a commanding lead.  The Lynx also scored two runs a piece in the third and fourth innings.

Alyson Durben (Stow, Mass.), was 3-for-3 from the plate and a home run shy of the cycle as she drove in two runs and scored three.  Third baseman Sarah Wilson (Lowell, Mass.) had two RBI singles before she was replaced in third inning.  Junior infielder Lani Cabral-Pini walked four times, scored four times, and a stole a base for the Lynx.

On the mound, junior Alicia Burnett (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) struck out seven Buccaneers and gave up only four hits in the shortened five-inning game.

In the second game, Lesley's bats remained hot as Wilson added three more hits, driving in four runs.  Georgia Saltzman (Lynn, Mass.) smashed two triples that drove in three runners.  She finished the day 3-for-3 with three runs batted in and one run scored.

For Mass Maritime, the lone bright spot of the day was a two-RBI double by Cali Longtin (Feeding Hills, Mass.) who crushed a Christina Anzilotti (Pelham, N.Y.) pitch over the left fielder's head in the third inning.

The Lynx were aggressive all day long as the team recorded seven stolen bases on the day.  With a tremendous amount of speed on the team, Lesley will look to this style of play to win their North Atlantic Conference match ups.

Lesley will next be in action on Saturday April 5 against NAC opponent Bay Path College starting at 3 p.m.  Mass Maritime will face Worcester State College on Saturday starting at 12 p.m.
