THE LEAD – The Lesley University baseball team wrapped up its weekend doubleheader at SUNY Cobleskill by splitting Sunday's doubleheader by falling in game one, 18-3, and then taking game two, 6-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)
- SUNY Cobleskill struck first in game one as the hosts started the game with a three-run first that was highlighted by a two-run homer off the bat of Cole Platt that made it 2-0 at the time.
- Fighting Tigers starter Dylan Schwam was able to keep the Lynx bats quiet throughout the first five innings and in the fourth, SUNY Cobleskill gave its starter even more run support with a six-run fourth that pushed the lead to nine (9-0). In the top half of the fifth, Lesley was able to get one run back courtesey of a Raymond Morales (Naugatuck, Conn.) RBI single that allowed Caden Shott (Richmond, Calif.) to score after he drew a walk earlier.
- SUNY Cobleskill's offense would continue right where it left off and played another six runs in the bottom half of the fifth to go up 14 (15-1). Jesus Sarda highlighted the high scoring inning with a two-run RBI single that made it 14-1 at the time.
- After scoring another run in the sixth, the hosts answered with a three-run inning to go up 18-2 and even with an RBI single from Justin Dennett (Fairfield, Conn.) in the seventh, it would be all the Lynx would get as Connor Mulligan would retire the next batter for the 18-3 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)
- Two diferent Lynx recorded an RBI in the opening game (Dennett and Morales).
- Andrew Gryniewicz (Hollis, N.H.) took the loss after going 4.0 IP and allowing 14 hits, nine runs, while striking out two.
- For SUNY Cobleskill, Platt and Sarda guided the Fighting Tigers offense with four RBIs apiece.
- Schwam earned the win after tossing 5.0 IP while giving up two hits and one run while striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)
- After both sides would go scoreless in the first two innings, Lesley would be the ones who struck first in the top of the third courtesey of a Colin McCarthy (Rehoboth, Mass.) RBI single that found a gap in left for a 1-0 advantage.
- In the following inning, the Lynx would add three more insurance runs to make it a 4-0 game highlighted by a two-run RBI single off the bat of McCarthy. However, the hosts would respond and take a one-run lead (5-4) thanks to a five-run fifth which included the go-ahead two-run RBI single from Thomas Reis.
- Later both sides would go scoreless in the sixth but in the seventh, Lesley recaptured the lead thanks to alert base-running from Owen Kalagher (Fairfield, Conn.) who scored the eventual game-winning run by taking advantage of a wild throw from the pitcher after swiping third base. Earlier in the same inning, Kalagher drove in the tying run off an RBI double that allowed Dennett to score.
- Taking the one-run lead in the seventh, Morales shut down the Fighting Tigers bats retiring the side in order to secure the crucial 6-5 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 2)
- McCarthy tied his season-high in RBIs with three.
- Along with McCarthy, James Brandon (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Kalagher also recorded RBIs.
- On the mound, Morales was credited with the win after throwing 2.0 IP of succesful relief pitching while allowing zero hits and runs and striking out a career-high four.
- Reis paced the SUNY Cobleskill offense with two RBIs on the day.
- Evan Balbera took the loss after going 2.0 IP in relief and allowing one hit, two runs, and striking out two.

- Lesley has a few days off before wrapping NAC play when the Lynx travel to UMaine Farmington for a doubleheader on Thursday, May 1 starting at a time to be determined later.
