THE LEAD – The Lesley University baseball team wrapped up its regular season with a non-conference matchup versus Gordon College and swept the Fighting Scots 8-3 in game one, and 12-7 in game two. Prior to the contest, the Lynx honored the following student-atheletes for senior day: Cal Caruso (Sarasota, Fla.)Justin Dennett (Fairfield, Conn.)Andrew Gryniewicz (Hollis, N.H.)Colby Jacobs (Charlton, Mass.)Colin McCarthy (Rehoboth, Mass.)Dylan McDonald (East Lyme, Conn.)Christian McElroy (Toms River, N.J.)Jacob Nemergut (Monroe, Conn.)Will Stafford (Charlottesville, Va.)Patrick Teasdale (Stamford, Conn.), and graduate student James Brandon (Manhattan Beach, Calif.). Lesley University Athletics would like to thank these student-athletes for all their efforts for the Lesley baseball program over their careers!

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)

  • Gordon jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after the first thanks to a Jonathan McIntyre sacrifice fly. However, in the bottom half of the third, the Lesley offense woke up and retook the lead thanks to a three-run inning highlighted by Jacobs two-run RBI single that made it 3-1.
  • From then on, Lesley pitcher Charles Ambroult (Quincy, Mass.) shut down the Gordon bats by retiring seven-straight batters from the third through the sixth innings which also included three strikeouts as well.
  • During Ambroult's dominat stretch, the Lynx struck again this time with a four-run fifth that made it 7-1 as the squad took advantage of wild pitches and errors by Gordon.
  • Lesley would go onto add another run in the sixth via a McCarthy double to right center that allowed Keenan Hobart (Newington, Conn.) to score after he singled earlier that inning.
  • Despite a two-run homer from Alex Carl in the seventh for Gordon, it would not be enough as Raymond Morales (Naugatuck, Conn.) would come in to shut the door on any Fight Scots momenetum by striking out the next two batters for the 8-3 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)

  • Jacobs and McCarthy led the Lesley offense with two RBIs apiece in game one.
  • On the mound, Ambroult grabbed his third win of the season going 3.0 IP while allowing three hits and two runs and striking out four.
  • For Gordon, Carl led the Fighting Scots with two RBIs.
  • Paul Donnelly took the loss for Gordon after going just 1.2 innings while allowing five hits and three runs.
  • Lesley held the advantage in hits by a 8-6 margin.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)

  • Lesley's bats continued where they left off in game one by jumping to an early 6-0 lead thanks to a six-run first inning. In the Lynx's high-scoring inning, both Brandon and Jacobs each notched RBIs whereas Lesley scored its other runs by taking advantage of multiple wild pitches.
  • Despite Gordon getting one run back in the top of the second, the Lynx offense continued to pile on the runs by adding four more in the bottom half of the frame to go up 10-1. Both Owen Kalagher (Fairfield, Conn.) and Jacobs each had two-run RBI singles in the frame.
  • However, the Fighting Scots would cut their deficit in half thanks to a grand slam off the bat of Tyler Wilson making it a 10-5 ballgame. Although Lesley would respond in the bottom half of the third by getting two runs back thanks to RBIs from Caden Shott (Richmond, Calif.) and Dennett putting the Lynx up 12-5.
  • Gordon would not go quietly though as the visitors pulled within five (12-7) once again after a two-run RBI single from CJ Demers. After the Demers RBI, McElroy would go onto shut down the Fighting Scots bats the rest of the inning by retiring the next two batters keeping the Lynx lead at five.
  • The visitors would threaten in the fifth by having runners at first and second with two outs but McElroy once again escaped the jam by striking out the following batter. After a scoreless bottom of the fifth for Lesley, the game would ultimately be called due to a local light ordinance with the town resulting in a 12-7 victory for the Lynx.
