THE LEAD - After falling to Fisher via the run rule on Monday, the Lynx were in need of getting their bats back on track. And that they did, putting up five in the first four innings of game one. Eventually scoring 14. However, the Hornets' bats were hot too as they outpaced Lesley with 17 runs. Then, with most of the players exhausted from an 11-inning marathon, game two was a much different story. Both teams combined for six runs. VTSU went home with both wins.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)

  • Neither team did much in the 1st, and it looked the same for the 2nd until the Lynx loaded the bases. Caden Shott on third, Anthony Nyhuis on second, and Nathan Young on first. A single from Owen Finnegan gave Lesley the 2-0 lead.

  • The Lynx loaded the bases in the 3rd but weren't able to do anything with it.

  • In the 4th, Logan Shudy homered. Andres Moreno then singled, and a triple from Jacob Brown scored him, and a double from Grant Bazinet scored him.

  • The Hornets started coming back in the 5th. Two bases-loaded walks helped them get within two. In the 6th, they rallied to go up by three. They added two more in the 8th and another in the 9th.

  • In the bottom of the 9th, down by six, the Lynx got to work. Brown started the inning with a first-pitch single. Bazinet drew a walk, but then they got two back-to-back outs. Nyhuis singled to score a run, then Young walked to load the bases. A walk from Finnegan gave him another RBI.

  • The Hornets changed pitches, hoping to get just one out, but he walked Shudy, the first batter he saw. Moreno then singled and scored two. 11-10. Brown then drew a full count walk to reload the bases. Bazinet was then hit by a pitch to tie the game, but the rally ended there.

  • The Lynx let up a run in the 10th, but Shott started the bottom with a triple and a sac fly from Nyhuis tied it back up.

  • The Hornets had themselves a rally in the 11th, putting up 5 runs.

  • For the third straight inning, it was score or go home for the Lynx. Brown reached on a fielder's choice, and Bazinet drew a walk. A single from Gerlys Martinez scored the first run, and another single from Shott gave them another, but their magic had run out. The Lynx fell 17-14

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 1)

  • In a game of only offense, Shott shined above the rest. He went 3 for 5 with a walk and a triple. He drove in a run and scored two. He also was responsible for a double play.

  • Jacob Nemergut held the Hornets back as long as he could. He pitched 4.2 innings and three runs, all unearned, on six hits. He walked five but struck out six.

  • The Hornets' leadoff man, Cesar Cisneros, was unstoppable. He went 4 for 5 with two walks. He drove in three runs and scored three. On the basepath, he stole five times.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2)

  • Both teams, exhausted from the last game, couldn't get their bats going until the 3rd. That's when the Hornets put up three.

  • It wasn't until the fourth when Bazinet singled that the Lynx got their first hit of the game.

  • In the 5th, the Hornets hit a solo homerun.

  • That woke the Lynx up. Nyhuis started the inning with a single, and Christopher Wallace followed suit. Moreno drew a walk to load the bases, and a single from Brown scored two to cut the lead in half.

  • It would be the last hit for the Lynx all game as they fell 4-2

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 2)

  • Brown was the MVP at the plate. He was one of four Lynx to record a hit, his drive in two. He also drew a walk.

  • With the rest of the bullpen tired from game 1, Roy Lenhard pitched a complete 7.0 game. He allowed four runs on 11 hits. He struck out two and didn't walk a batter.

  • In the other dugout, Matt Doherty shined. He went 2 for 3 with a home run. He drove in a run and accounted for 2.
