THE LEAD - The Lynx headed into their final day of the season out of the playoffs, but they were in position to play spoiler for SUNY Cobleskill. The Fighting Tigers could secure the number one seed in the NAC tournament with a sweep, and in game one, they were well on their way with a 5-1 lead in the 6th. But a homer from Bazinet got the Lynx going, and they pulled off a walk-off comeback. They rode that momentum into game two, where they won, handily, on senior day, thanks to one of Roy Lenhard's best pitching performances of his college career.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)

  • The Fighting Tigers struck first, scoring a run in the first.

  • It took until the second for the Lynx to respond. Caden Shott led off with a single up the middle, then Jacob Brown did the same. A passed ball moved them both up. Then Nathan Young hit a sac fly to tie the game.

  • In the 4th, SUNY Cobleskill retook the lead and added another run in the 5th. Then two more in the 6th made it 5-1.

  • Bazinet decided it was time for the Lynx to start their comeback, so he went yard on the first pitch.

  • Brown then singled, and Johnson doubled. A sac fly from Young scored a run and made it 5-3.

  • With their back against the wall in the bottom of the 7th, the Lynx got to work. Anthony Nyhuis singled and Gerlys Martinez followed up with another. A flyout from Bazinet moved the runners up, and a single from Shott drove in a run.

  • Brown then drew a walk to load the bases with two outs in the bottom of the 7th, down by one. Payne Johnson singled to right to drive in two and walk off the game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 1)

  • The hero, Johnson, went 3 for 4 at the plate in game 1. He hit the only double for the Lynx and drove in two runs.

  • In his final college game, Jacob Nemergut pitched a complete 7.0 innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits. He walked three and recorded five strikeouts. He also earned his fourth win of the season, the most of any Lynx this season.

  • For the Fighting Tigers, Jeffrey Gutierrez did everything he could. He went 3 for 4 with the only double for the team. He drove in a run and crossed home twice. He also was responsible for a double play.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2)

  • The games started as quite a pitchers' duel. Cobleskill only managed two hits in their first four innings, and only three for the Lynx.

  • In the bottom of the first, Shott got on thanks to an error and made it to second. He then got third off another error. Then, on a wild pitch, he slid across home to put the Lynx on the board.

  • In the following inning, Christopher Wallace singled to lead off. Then Nyhuis drew a four-pitch walk, and Martinez loaded them up with a walk of his own. Bazinet then tripled to clear the bases.

  • Shott followed that up with a single to score another run. Brown then singled as well and a double from Johnson drove them both in to make it 7-0.

  • The Fighting Tigers put up three meaningless runs in the 7th as the Lynx won 7-3.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 2)

  • No player on Lesley got more than one hit in game two, but Bazinet's was a triple that drove in three and woke up the Lynx. He was also responsible for a double play in the field.

  • On his senior day, Lenhard pitched a complete 7.0 inning game. Through six innings, he allowed no runs and gave up three hits, but ended the day with three runs on eight hits. He recorded a team season high of 10 strikeouts. One less than his career high, which came in a 9-inning game.

  • On Cobleskill, Korin Laurilla was the only batter to manage more than one hit. He went 2 for 3 and scored a run.

UP NEXT

  • The Lynx finished their season today but will return next spring.

  • The Tigers are locked in the second seed in the NAC tournament and will play on May 7th in Bangor, ME.
