THE LEAD— The Dean College Men's Basketball program clawed back to take their opening night victory over Lesley University on Monday night, winning by a final score of 73-65. With the win, Dean begins the season 1-0, while the Lynx drop to 0-2 to begin the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Dean first year Max Shosa scored the first points of the game, drilling a three-pointer from beyond the arc. Lesley responded quickly, traveling down the other side of the court for a layup by senior Tarell Joseph (Hempstead, N.Y.).
  • The Bulldogs continued to hold the lead throughout the first eight minutes of the half as Randy Vazquez and Christian Yeates (Atlanta, GA) contributed in the push.
  • However, at the 12:12 mark, Lesley took the lead. A strong layup by junior Ryan Ellis (Van Nuys, Calif.) gave them the slight 18-17 advantage.
  • The next ten minutes were a grudge match from both sides, with the Lynx slowly building a cushion, leading by as many as six points following a layup by first year Moses Semuhoza (Westbrook, Maine) to make it 29-23 with 8:28 to play in the half.
  • Naser Motley (Everett, WA) scored one last layup before the halftime horn, but going into the locker room, the Bulldogs trailed Lesley 43-39.
  • Lesley continued their march to open the second half. Their lead extended to a game-high eight points, 58-50, after a pair of free throws from Mateo Duran (Carson, Calif.) with just over 12 minutes to go.
  • Dean responded, answering the call with a 10-0 run to take the 60-58 lead. Christian Yeates would produce a beauty of a layup, followed up by baskets from Vazquez and Shosa (3-pointer). Yeates would strike again in the paint, producing the basket that gave the Bulldogs the lead.
  • The Lynx held a lead with five and change remaining at 63-62 before Dean pulled ahead for good with 5:03 left on a Vasquez layup to make it 65-63. The Bulldogs closed out the game going on an 11-2 run, limiting LU to just one field goal over the final five minutes of court time.
