THE LEAD — Five different players scored double-figures to lift New England College over Lesley University, 90-47, Monday evening in NCAA Division III men's basketball action at Minuteman High School.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • LU senior Jaxon Miles (Dallas, Tex.) gave the hosts a brief 5-4 lead following a triple with 17:07 to left in the first half but Ryan Curvier answered with a three to put NEC ahead for good on the next possession
  • Midway through the opening stanza with the Pilgrims on top 22-12, the visitors put together a 10-0 run fueled by six points by Michael Hills to make it a 32-12 game and the sides traded hoops to a 37-16 halftime score.
  • The squads continued to trade hoops through the first six minutes of the second half as a three by Jarrod Johnson (Dallas, Tex.) made it 50-32 but an immediate 19-2 run by the Grims thwarted any chance of a home comeback as NEC cruised to a 90-47 non-conference road win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Miles led all scorers with 18 points on 7-for-17 shooting including four threes.
  • Junior Ryan Ellis (Van Nuys, Calif.) hauled in a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with six points.
  • Mike Strazzeri collected a double-double with a team-high 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Grims.
  • Luke Montejo added 14 points and six boards in 21 minutes of action of the NEC bench.
