THE LEAD — Lesley University went into Friday's matchup looking to hand Maine Maritime Academy their first in conference loss of the season. Despite keeping the Mariners within an arm's reach for nearly the entire game, the Lynx ultimately fell 88-78.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Lesley got out to a lead early on and held it for the beginning of the first half before MMA pulled ahead as halftime approached.

  • The Mariners didn't stop there; they came out of the break hot, leading by 18 with 15:43 left in the game.

  • The Lynx were undeterred and went shot for shot down the stretch.

  • Lesley's slow crawl back never stopped, coming withing eight points of MMA with two minutes left.

  • The comeback was too little too late as a handful of Mariner's free throws in the final second sealed the Lynx's fate.

  • Leanord also led the team in rebounds with 15 followed Moses Semuhoza (Westbrook, Maine) with another 12 and nine points of his own.

  • Ethan Arnold (Sanbornville, N.H.) shot 13 points; Jarod Johnson (Dallas, Tex.) had 10 points, and another 10 from Ryan Ellis (Van Nuys, Calif.), who added a block for good measure.

  • Jaxson Miles (Arlington, Tex.) did a little bit of everything scoring six, including a dunk, catching three rebounds, handed out two assists, and nabbed a team leading three steals

  • For MMA, junior Jack Banks powered the offense with a game-high 26 points and a 10-rebound double-double. Sophomore Marcus Schade returned to the floor and added 20 points and four assists. Freshmen Drew Hamilton and Aaron Pensel contributed 18 and 13 points,
