THE LEAD — Lesley University lead with less than eight minutes to play before ultimately falling 71-58 to Emmanuel College in NCAA Division III men's basketball non-conference action on the Andy Yosinoff Court in Boston, Mass. on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • It was a back and forth start until first year guard Danny Adams got hot from behind the arc, burying three in the first 10 minutes of the first half, including a transition three to give Emmanuel a 17-10 advantage.
  • A game of runs developed, as a 7-0 spurt from the Lynx brought it back to 17 all on a jumper by CJ Leonard (Raynham, Mass.), just for Emmanuel to counter with seven unanswered of its own, highlighted by a corner three off an Adams assist from sophomore forward Hansy Jacques to make it 24-17 with just under eight minutes to go in the period.
  • The defense amped up the remainder of the half, and the half-court offenses started to struggle. Lesley chipped away at the lead, as a jump shot from Leonard brought them to within two at 30-28.
  • With the first half winding down, Adams snatched a loose ball and took it coast to coast for two of his 17 first half points, finishing through two defenders at the rim, giving Emmanuel a 33-28 advantage that they would then take into the first half break.
  • Emmanuel came out with energy in the second half, as a Noah Beaudet corner three gave the team its biggest advantage of the night at 40-28. The Lynx refused to go away, as their persistent defense forced Emmanuel into some tough looks, allowing Lesley to climb back into the match. After winning a fight for a loose ball, a play that was indicative of the Lesley second half effort, Leonard made one of two from the free throw line to cut the Saints lead to four at 42-38 with 12 minutes to play.
  • Lesley secured their first lead of the second half off a tip-in layup at 48-47 by junior Ryan Ellis (Van Nuys, Calif.), but that would be the Lynx only lead of the frame. A pair of baskets from Junior guard Connor Hanavan put the Saints back in front, 52-48.
  • The Saints continued to pour it on, as a top of the key three from Cameron Snowden brought the lead back to nine, 57-48 with just over five minutes to play. Giving Emmanuel the breathing room it needed down the stretch.
  • With 2:10 remaining, a put back from Junior forward Mahari Guerrier pushed the lead to ten, 65-55, putting the Lynx away for good, as the Saints notched their second straight victory, 71-59.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Adams finished with a game-high 19 points while Snowden chipped in with 10 points for the Saints.
  • Leonard paced the Lynx with a team-high 18 points and also added a game-high three blocked shots.
