THE LEAD — The Lynx looked to get their first win of the new year as they traveled to Presque Isle to take on UMaine. The Owls, coming off a three-game win streak, hoped to continue their success in a matchup against an NAC rival. Despite some big shots from Lesley, strong defense and a couple of big runs were all the Owls needed to pull out an 86-58 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Lesley scored the first two points when CJ Leonard hit a layup seconds into the game.

  • For the first ten minutes, both teams were on fire. Neither seemed to miss a shot.

  • Ethan Arnold hit a three to put the Lynx up 12-8. But that seemed to have angered the Owls as they set out on a 12-2 run after that.

  • As the first half started to wind down, the Lynx's offense wasn't able to keep pace with the Owls, and they slowly started to fall behind. The score read 40-25 when both teams headed to the locker rooms.

  • The second half was much like the first. Both teams went back and forth to start play.

  • Then a run by the Owls damaged the determination. This one is a 22-2 streak that included three consecutive three-pointers

  • Despite the score, Lesley continued to fight. Jaxon Miles sank three three-pointers late to shrink the deficit.

  • However, the comeback came with too little time left in the game. The Lynx ultimately lost 86-58.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Miles led the Lynx with 14 points, including a team high four three pointers, and was perfect from the free throw line. He also caught three rebounds.

  • Four players recorded a steal, including Jarod Johnson, who also put up ten points.

  • On the other side of the ball, James Yamashita led the Owls with 20 points. He broke the team's season high record with six three-pointers. The Owls as a team also broke their season record of most threes in a game with 15. Yamashita also grabbed four rebounds, a steal, and dished out an assist.

  • The Owls' most well-rounded player was Aleix Moreno. He put up 14 points, including going four for four from behind the three-point line, grabbed eight rebounds, tied the team high with two steals, dished out two assists, and added a block
