THE LEAD – For the second straight day, the Lesley University men's soccer program played to a 1-1 draw in North Atlantic Conference action as the Lynx and SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers each settled for a point after 90 minutes of deadlocked action at Minuteman High School field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tigers drew first blood with a tally at the 6:23 marker to take an early 1-0 advantage. Following a failed clear by the Lynx at the top of their 18-yard box, Declan McCracken cleaned up a bouncing ball with a lofted strike to give the visitors the lead.
  • Lesley got the equalizer in the 23rd minute in a similar scrum on the opposite end when Adrian Esparragoza (New York, N.Y.) fired an initial shot that was saved, however the rebound was up for grabs in front the to Cobleskill net and Cameron DaRosa (Wells, Maine) flicked the ball back to Aidan Stafford (Westford, Mass.) for the one-time finish to even the game at 1-1.
  • Shots went in favor of the Fighting Tigers at the break, 6-5, while the Lynx owned a 3-2 edge in corners heading into the second half.
  • The visitors were the aggressors in the final period, outshooting LU by a 10-4 margin, owning the best chance for the game-winner.
  • In the 73rd minute, Tyler Szarek had space inside the box and a low shot forced junior keeper Aiden Hendricks (Richmond, Va.) to make a diving reaction save. The rebound came right to Szarek with Hendricks still on the ground but Szarek rushed the follow up attempt and flubbed it over the crossbar to keep the score locked at 1-1.
  • Lesley's best chance for the win came with 6:06 to play when sophomore Wassim Chaib (East Boston, Mass.) had space on the left side for an open look but his shot missed the frame, wide left.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Hendrick notched six saves in the draw and moves to 1-1-2. His counterpart Joe Willie recorded three saves and stands at 1-3-1 on the year for SUNY.
  • The goal for Stafford was his second of the year, matching his single-season high, and the Lynx are now 1-0-1 in games the senior has scored in this season.
  • The assist for DaRosa marks his first collegiate point at Lesley.
  • The back-to-back ties marks the first time Lesley has earned consecutive draws since the 2014 campaign when they picked a 1-1 stalemate vs. Emerson on Sept. 17 followed by a 0-0 tie vs. Southern Vermont on Sept. 27.
