THE LEAD – Sophomore forward Wassim Chaib (Revere, Mass.) tied the Lesley University single-game scoring record netting four goals to power the Lynx men's soccer program to a 4-2 come-from-behind road victory Wednesday afternoon against Fitchburg State University at Elliot Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Lesley fell behind in the match early as Jair Santos found the back of the net for the Falcons just 7:36 into the match to put the hosts on top, 1-0.
  • Chaib opened his afternoon with an equalizing tally in the 17th minute to lock the game at 1-1 but Santos responded with his second goal of the match at the 22:24 marker, finishing off a pass from Cesar Pinelo to make it a 2-1 score in favor of the Falcons.
  • FSU owned a 12-8 advantage in shots at the break in addition to a 5-1 cushion in corner attempts.
  • The Lynx regrouped and played its most complete half of the year in the second stanza, getting an early lift from Chaib's second goal of the day about 10 minutes into the frame when Tyler Fortin (Farmington, Conn.) and Aidan Stafford (Westford, Mass.) set him up to tie the score at 2-2.
  • LU pulled ahead for the first time in the match when Marc Kenny Derac (Waltham, Mass.) delivered a ball to Chaib who deposited it for the hat trick and eventual game-winner to lift Lesley on top, 3-2, at 64:24 in the match.
  • Chaib gave Lesley some insurance and breathing room less than two minutes later when a brilliant individual effort found the twine for his record-tying fourth goal of the match to make it 4-2 with 23:44 remaining in regulation.
  • Over the final 23 minutes, the Lynx defensive unit stood strong to hold the line and pull out a 4-2 come-from-behind non-conference victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Chaib becomes the fifth player in program history to score four goals in a game, matching the feat last accomplished by Colin Zeigler in a 12-0 win in the 2014 regular-season finale vs. Wheelock College. Erik Johansen in a 4-2 win vs. Elms on Oct. 19, 2013.
  • In addition to Zeigler, Erik Johansen accomplished the feat in a 4-2 win vs. Elms on Oct. 19, 2013, and Ali Sozeri scored four on Nov. 2, 2011 in a 5-3 victory vs. Mitchell College in an NECC Semifinal playoff match up.
  • The first four-goal performance in program history came from Nick Mattox in a 12-1 win vs. Wheelock College on Oct. 8, 2011.
  • Sophomore keeper Josh Angulo-Gonzalez (Malden, Mass.) earned the win playing the second half for the Lynx, allowing no goals. The victory marked her first collegiate win between the pipes.
  • FSU keeper Malcolm Edwards (1-6-1) made six saves in the losing effort.
  • The Falcons finished the game with a 20-18 advantage in shots in addition to a 7-3 edge in corners.
