THE LEAD – The No. 6 seeded Lesley University men's soccer team fell to No. 3 SUNY Delhi in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Soccer Quarterfinals by a 7-0 final on Wednesday evening on Neil Riddell Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In an evenly matched first half, the Broncos broke the scoreless tie in the 28th minute to go ahead 1-0 thanks to a Sean Szczcotka goal, his third of the year. It proved to be the only goal of the half as the hosts headed into the halftime intermission with the one-goal cushion, outshooting Lesley at the break by a 10-6 margin.
  • Delhi erupted for six second half goals to pull away in the action thanks to six different goal-scoreres.
  • The hosts doubled the lead to 2-0 in the 56th minute on a score from Lawrence Robinson and then just about 10 minutes later, added to the lead when Aidan Gaughan made it 3-0 to slash any hopes of a potential LU comeback.
  • Things unraveled quickly for the visitors as they allowed four goals over the next nine minutes as Umaru Conteh, Cristian Navarro, Liam Molloy and Ahmadou Diallo all registered goals before it was over.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • LU sophomore Josh Angulo-Gonzalez (Malden, Mass.) started the match and made six saves in 72 minutes of action before senior keeper Aiden Hendricks (Stafford, Va.) took over and made two saves in the final 18 minutes.
  • Salvatore Meloni registered four stops in net for the Broncos to record the shutout, the program's 10th of the year. The program has only surrendered one goal during the entire month of October, outscoring their opponents now by a 39-1 margin during that stretch.
  • Delhi outshot the Lynx by 31-9 final on the night including a 21-3 difference in the second half.

OF NOTE

  • The playoff berth for LU was the program's first since the 2019 campaign.
  • It also was the second NAC postseason berth, the first coming back in 2007 before Lesley shifted conferences over to the NECC, which they remained in until 2023 when they rejoined the NAC.

UP NEXT

  • SUNY Delhi heads to No. 2 Husson University for a NAC Semifinal matchup on Saturday, Nov. 1. for a 4:00 PM kickoff.
  • The Lynx wrap their year with an overall mark of 3-11-4, the program's highest winning percentage since 2019.
