FT. MYERS, FL – Lesley University blew a three run lead as
Salem State College had a four run seventh inning on its way to a
7-3 victory.
The Lady Lynx got all of their scoring done in the third inning.
Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, MA) started the rally off with a
walk. Courtnie Leakeas (Lowell, MA) and Gianna Spaziante
(Hawthorne, NY) followed with singles loading the bases for Sarah
Wilson (Lowell, MA). Wilson delivered with a 2 RBI single, scoring
Cabral-Pini and Leakeas. Spaziante would score on a wild pitch.
Salem State came right back in the top of the forth with two runs,
narrowing the gap to just one run. Salem State would then tie the
game in the top of the sixth inning. After the lead off batter was
thrown out trying to steal by Katie Wilson (Kittery, ME) and a
routine groundball recorded the second out it looked like Salem
State was in a lot of trouble. They were down to their final four
outs when they came through with some clutch hitting to tie the
game in the sixth, and then blow the game wide open in the
seventh.
Maureen Mikos (Fairfield, CT) went the distance for the Lynx. She
pitched a complete game giving up nine hits, six earned runs and
striking out three.
The Lynx return to action against North Park University on
Thursday, March 16th at 1:00pm. For more information on the Lesley
University softball team please go to their website.
