LEICESTER, MA – Lesley University got four runs in the top
of the eighth inning on its way to a 10-6 win against Becker
College. The win is historically huge for Lesley University because
it is the first time in Lesley’s softball programs’
history that they defeated Becker College.
Despite committing five errors and getting only five hits Lesley
was able to win mainly because of great patience at the plate,
soliciting eleven walks during the game.
Lesley got a solid performance out of Maureen Mikos (Fairfield, CT)
who pitched the complete game giving up four earned runs, striking
out eight and allowing only one walk. The eight strike outs are a
season high for Mikos.
Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, NY) led the Lynx with three
RBI’s against Becker. Sarah Wilson (Lowell, MA) and Christina
DiGiorgio (Lowell, MA) each had two RBI’s in the win for
Lesley.
Becker got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 4-0 lead after the
first inning. DiGiorgio cut into that lead in the second when she
drove in her two runs cutting the lead to 4-2. Lani Cabral-Pini
(Wilmington, MA) scored off a Spaziante RBI in the fourth to bring
the Lynx to within one, 4-3. They Lynx had a huge, three run, sixth
inning which appeared to be enough to get the win for the Lynx.
They led 6-4 going into the seventh inning and with Becker down to
it’s final out it appeared that Lesley would get its first
win against Becker in its school’s history. However, a clutch
single by Becker tied the game up a 6 and after Mikos made a great
catch on a line drive up the middle, the game was headed to extra
innings.
Using patience that they had shown all day at the plate Lesley
quickly loaded the bases in the top of the eighth. From there they
got four key runs from which Becker could not come back.
The Lynx return to the diamond against Mount Ida College on Friday,
March 30th for a double-header. For more information on the Lesley
