FORT MYERS, Fla. - The softball team was back in action against non-conference opponents down in Fort Myers on Monday, but lost both games they played to Olivet College and North Park University.
Game One
Olivet College shutout Lesley 4-0 as the Lynx were only able to manage four hits in the game. Two of those hits came from freshman outfielder Alyson Durben (Stow, Mass.) who ended up 2-for-3 on the day.
In the top of the 3rd, Olivet's Anna Braner (Belmund, Iowa) singled to right field to bring in teammate Katie Fleschner (Grand Blanc, Mich.). Two innings later, Olivet scored three more runs to put away the Lynx. In the frame, singles from Fleschner and Jenny Robbins (Fenton, Mich.) brought in runs along with a sacrifice fly from Cassie Bowerman (Quincy, Mich.).
Lesley pitcher Christina Anzilotti (Pelham, N.Y.) pitched well in relief finishing with 2.0 IP with no runs given up.
Game Two
In the second game of the day for the Lynx, North Park University jumped to ahead to an early 7-1 lead thanks to several key contributions. Kara Emmering (Fremont, Wis.) was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in to lead the Vikings. Ashley Hartz (Lake Zurich, Ill.) also drove in two runs and Katie Batchelor (St. Charles, Ill.) crossed home plate twice and knocked in a run.
Vikings pitcher Tatum Sexton got the win after pitching seven innings and tallying seven strikeouts.
In the bottom half of the 7th inning, Lesley finally got their offense going as the Lynx scored two runs in the bottom half of the frame. Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.) started off the inning bunting for a hit down the third base line. After the next batter lined to the second baseman for the first out, Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) crushed a double to right center and Cabral-Pini raced around the diamond to score the team's second run of the game. Two batters later, pinch hitter Jamie Goulart (Tiverton, R.I.) got her first hit of the season as she singled to right field to drive in Fralick.
With the losses, the Lynx dropped to 0-4 on the season. On Wednesday Lesley will play Drew University and Wheaton College (MA) at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
