LONGMEADOW, Mass. - Due to poor field conditions at Buckingham Field in Cambridge, the Lesley University softball was forced to travel to Bay Path College for their double-header. Despite the set back, the team was able to sweep the Wildcats with 5-0 and 13-0 victories for their first two North Atlantic Conference wins of the season.
In the first game, senior captain Amy Breen (Holbrook, Mass.) pitched a complete game shutout going 7.0 innings giving up three hits, walking one, and striking out two batters.
With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) singled and Sarah Wilson (Lowell, Mass.) reached base after an error by the third baseman. The next batter Georgia Saltzman (Lynn, Mass.) tripled home both base runners to give the Lynx a 2-0 lead. She would then score on a wild pitch.
In the third inning, Fralick singled home Alyson Durben (Stow, Mass.) after the right fielder singled and stole second base. Fralick would finish the game 3-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI.
The Lesley offense took over in the second game against Bay Path as Durben hit two home runs and Fralick hit one of her own in the 13-0 blow out win.
Durben finished the game 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, and two singles. Her five runs batted in and three runs scored were best on the team. Fralick capped off her impressive game one performance going 2-for-3, three RBI, and one run scored.
Second baseman Christina DiGiorgio (Lowell, Mass.) was solid at the plate as her double in the bottom of the first inning drove in two runs. DiGiorgio would later score on an infield error.
On the mound Alicia Burnett (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) was dominant once again as she struck out nine Wildcats in 5.0 innings pitched. Burnett gave us just three hits and walked one batter en route to the victory.
With the victories, the Lynx improved their record to 6-6 (2-0 NAC). Lesley will be back in action against Wheelock College on Sunday April 6 starting at 12 p.m.
