Lynx win eight straight game with Newbury sweep

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Lesley University softball team defeated Newbury College 4-1 and 9-1 in their non-conference double-header match up to improve their record to 10-6 (4-0 North Atlantic Conference).  With the losses, Newbury drops to 4-12 on the season.

In the first game, Amy Breen (Holbrook, Mass.) gave up just two hits and an unearned run en route to her third win of the season.  The senior captain also struck out four Nighthawks batters on the game.  Breen did not give up a hit until the fourth inning when Newbury shortstop Alise Jacquet (Holliston, Mass.) singled to centerfield.  Jacquet would later rope a pitch to deep centerfield that was misplayed, causing an error and scored the only run for the Nighthawks.

The Lynx offense was led by Alyson Durben (Stow, Mass.) who went 3-for-4 on the game with two doubles and a triple.  Durben scored two runs after being knocked in by Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) and Sarah Wilson (Lowell, Mass.).  Shortstop Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.) had two hits, a run and a RBI in the game as well.

Durben continued her hot hitting in the second game, tallying three more hits as she knocked in five runners.  Wilson contributed again with an RBI single in the sixth inning to give the Lynx an eight-run advantage.

Senior outfielder Courtnie Leakeas (Lowell, Mass.) had a solid game as she scored two runs, walked, and drove in Chelsea Quackenbush (East Hampton, Conn.) with a single in the third inning.

For Newbury, Jacquet was impressive again at the plate as she added two more hits to her daily total and scored a run after Catherine Cullen (Beverly, Mass.) singled her home.  Jacquet had tripled to right centerfielder in that at bat.

Christina Anzilotti (Pelham, N.Y.) was impressive on the mound winning her third game of the season.  The senior pitched 6.0 innings while giving up five hits and one earned run in the victory.  She struck out one batter and walked two.

The Lynx will be in action this weekend against NAC opponents Maine Maritime Academy and Husson College at home.  Both games start at noon Saturday and Sunday.  Newbury College will next host Bay Path College on Friday April 11 at 3 p.m.
