Softball improves to 8-2 in NAC with Elms sweep

CHICOPEE, Mass. - In a match up of the fourth and fifth ranked softball teams in the North Atlantic Conference, Lesley University swept Elms College by the scores 6-0 and 7-2.  With the wins the Lynx improved to 14-8 (8-2 NAC) while the Blazers dropped to 15-9 (4-4 NAC).

In the first game, Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, N.Y.) and Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) each hit home runs to lead the Lesley offense.  Spaziante's bomb came in the second inning with two outs and Ashley Cunningham (Mountain Top, Pa.) on base.  Fralick gave the Lynx some insurance runs in the seventh inning as she drove in three runs with her home run.

Alicia Burnett (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) was on the mound for the Lynx and continued to be the ace of the pitching staff.  The junior pitched a complete game shutout, striking out nine batters while giving up just two hits.

The Lynx maintained their momentum into the second game as they scored four of their seven runs in the top of the first inning.  Fralick hit an RBI single to right field as she knocked in Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.) and Sarah Wilson (Lowell, Mass.) drove in two more runners with another single down the right field line.

Elms got their offense on the board for the first time of the day after Kimberly Lastowski (Turner Falls, Mass.) roped a double a two-run double to cut Lesley's lead down to 4-2.  It would be the only runs the Blazers would score.

Burnett went back out on the mound for the second game and impressed once again as she pitched seven more innings to get her second win of the day and her eight of the season.

The Lynx now have sole possession of fourth place in the North Atlantic Conference.  Their next challenge will be on Thursday April 17 as the team hosts UMass-Boston starting at 3 p.m.
