VERMONT - The Lesley University softball continued their success against the North Atlantic Conference as the Lynx swept both Johnson State College and Castleton State College over the week. The victories improved Lesley's record to 20-8 (12-2 NAC) as the team is in sole possession of third place in the conference.
Lesley rolled over a winless Johnson State squad as they won both games by the scores of 19-0 and 17-3. Freshman Ashley Cunningham (Mountain Top, Pa.) led the offense for the Lynx as she went 3-for-3 with four runs and five RBI in the first game and 1-for-3 with a run and two RBi in the second game. Cunningham blasted her first home run of the season, a three-run shot in the top of the fourth inning.
Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) was impressive as well for the Lynx as she tallied four hits on the day with four runs scored and five runs batted in. Alyson Durben (Stow, Mass.) continued her impressive rookie season as she scored four times and knocked in four on the day. Shortstop Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.) reached base often and scored a team-high six runs on the day.
With seniors Amy Breen (Holbrook, Mass.) and Christina Anzilotti (Pelham, N.Y.) on the mound, the Badgers were unable to get any offense going. Breen gave up four hits and two walks while striking out three in her victory. Anzilotti gave up three runs but mainly kept Johnson State hitters off the base paths as she earned a victory for Lesley.
The next day against Castleton State, junior Alicia Burnett (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) shut down the Spartans for 14 innings. Burnett proved why is she is one of the top pitchers in the conference as she struck out 14 batters and gave up just one run in both games combined. Burnett now has a 10-3 record on the season and 1.03 ERA. Lesley won both games 6-0 and 6-1.
Durben cracked a double and a triple in the first game to knock in three runners and Cabral-Pini scored two more times to lead the offense. Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 in the first game with a run scored after her fifth inning triple.
Game two saw Fralick get three more hits in four trips to the plate with four RBI. Cabral-Pini crossed the plate three times and now leads the Lynx with 43 runs scored on the season.
The Lynx will be in action on Thursday April 24 against Becker College starting at 3:30 p.m. It will be Senior Night for Lesley, the final home games of the season.
