LEICESTER, Mass. - The softball team won their tenth straight game after sweeping Becker College 9-1, 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The Lynx improved to 22-8 (14-2 North Atlantic Conference) and are now in second place in the conference. Becker dropped to 6-18 (2-14 NAC).
Amy Breen (Holbrook, Mass.) held the Hawks to five hits in five innings pitched while striking out two batters in the 9-1 victory. With the win, Breen improved her season record to 6-3.
Alyson Durben (Stow, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) cracked a two-RBI double in the bottom of the first inning to lead the Lynx offensively. Infielder Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.) was on-base consistently as she walked twice, scored twice, stole two bases and singled in the game.
In the second game, a 9-0 shutout victory, Alicia Burnett (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) earned her 11th win of the season as the junior gave up just one hit in five innings while striking out nine. It was the sixth time Burnett has struck out nine or more batters in a game. Her season-high was 11 strikeouts against Husson College on April 13.
Five Lesley hitters had two hits including Durben, Fralick, Georgia Saltzman (Lynn, Mass.), Ashley Cunningham (Mountain Top, Pa.) and Sarah Wilson (Lowell, Mass.).
The highlight of the game came in the bottom of the third inning as Cunningham crushed a two-run home run to deep left field to give the Lynx a 5-0 lead. It was her second round tripper of the season.
Lesley will travel Maine this weekend to face Thomas College and UMaine-Farmington who are both having successful seasons thus far in conference play. The results of this weekend's games will determine who the Lynx will play in their NAC Quarterfinal match up on April 29.
