Lesley shortstop tops NCAA statistical categories

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - With the 2008 collegiate softball season in the books, the NCAA has recognized the teams and individuals who were among the statistical leaders this past year and Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.) is at the top of two categories.

Cabral-Pini finished the season batting .368 with 61 runs scored, 14 runs batted in, 41 walks, 15 stolen bases, .565 on-base percentage, and .951 fielding percentage.  The Lynx shortstop was the NCAA Division III leader in walks per game (0.98) and runs per game (1.45) as well as eleventh in on-base percentage.

Cabral-Pini terrorized opposing pitchers as the leadoff batter for the Lynx, who had a season to remember as the team went 30-12 en route to their first ever North Atlantic Conference championship.  Winning the conference title gave the softball team an automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament becoming the first Lesley program to do so in the history of Lynx Athletics.

Despite losing their two contests against nationally ranked opponents Wellesley College and Rivier College, the Lynx gained legitimacy amongst Division III softball programs in New England.  They finished the 2008 season as the eighth highest scoring team in all of NCAA Division III softball.

With Cabral-Pini atop their lineup in the spring of 2009, the Lynx will be sure to be a force in the newly formed New England Collegiate Conference.
