LU Softball Spring Training: Day Three

LU Softball Spring Training: Day Three

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Lesley University softball team redeemed themselves against Chatham College and Albion College by defeating both squads to get their first victories of the season.  The Lynx beat Chatham 16-2 in game one and followed up by edging Albion 4-3.

Game One vs. Chatham College

Lesley and Chatham exchanged leads until the top of the fifth inning when the Lynx broke out with four runs to take a 5-2 lead.  The Lynx busted out with 11 runs in their next at bat to solidify their 16-2 victory over Chatham.

Junior catcher Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) was 4-for-5 with three runs batted in and a run scored to lead the Lynx.  Georgia Saltzman (Lynn, Mass.) also knocked in three base runners and Ashley Cunningham (Mountain Top, Pa.) crushed a two RBI double to left center in the blowout win.

Every batter for the Lynx got a hit in the game.

Pitchers Cassandra Knox (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) and Alicia Burnett (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) combined to give up eight hits and two earned runs while striking out three.  Burnett entered the game in the fourth inning and earned her first victory of the season.

Game Two vs. Albion College

Lesley's second game of the day against Albion was a much closer match up as Cassandra Knox walked in the sixth inning to tie the game at three and Chelsea Quackenbush hit a fielder's choice up the middle to give Lesley a 4-3 lead that they would not relinquish.

Albion took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first after a Lesley error allowed an Albion base runner to round the bases for the game's first run.  A fielder's choice would later knock in another run.

The Lynx responded in the bottom half of the inning with an Alyson Durben (Stow, Mass.) groundout to score Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.) and a Georgia Saltzman RBI single that scored Jodi Fralick.

The Lynx struggled in the field committing four errors, but were able to keep Albion from taking advantage of their defensive miscues.

Alicia Burnett pitched a complete game with three strikeouts and gave up three runs on eight hits for her second victory of the day.

Lesley will play their final day of games down at the Rebel Spring Games against Waynesburg University and Chatham College tomorrow morning starting at 9:00 am.
