KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Lesley University split games with Waynesburg University and Chatham University in the final day of their 2009 trip to Kissimmee, Florida for the Rebel Spring Games. Lesley finished the trip with a 3-5 record.
Game One vs. Waynesburg University
The starting pitchers from both Lesley and Waynesburg cruised through the first two innings of play as Alicia Burnet (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) and Autumn Minor each struck out three batters in the scoreless frames.
In the top of the third, however, Waynesburg loaded the bases with a walk, error, and a single. Kristyn Kleug next hit a towering fly ball that was mishandled by the left fielder to bring in a run and Minor followed with a single to make the score 2-0.
Designated player Amanda Baughman crushed a ball with the bases loaded over the left fielder's head to clear the bases and Waynesburg took a 5-0 lead.
Other than a 2-for-3 performance from Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.), the Lynx were unable to get their offense going and fell to Waynesburg.
Game Two vs. Chatham University
The Lynx faced off against Chatham University for the second time during spring training and beat them 19-0 behind 21 hits. Causing much of the damage for Lesley were Jodi Fralick, Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.), and Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, N.Y.) who knocked in four, three, and three runs batted each.
Fralick was perfect at the plate going 5-for-5, scored two runs, and stole a base. Cabral-Pini crossed the plate four times and added two stolen bases. Spaziante added three runs to her overall impressive day.
On the mound for the Lynx was Stephanie Vassillion (Warner, N.H.) who pitched five scoreless innings to earn her first victory of the season. The freshman gave up just one hit and struck out three batters.
The Lynx play their first game back in the northeast with a doubleheader at Rivier College on March 20 starting at 4:00 pm.
