Big games for Mangiaratti, Durben cap Lynx perfect day

CLERMONT, FL – Alyson Durben's first home run of the season, a three-run blast to left in the first, sparked Lesley University's 9-1 victory over Finlandia Wednesday afternoon.

Durben (Stow, MA/Nashoba Regional) went 2-for-4 with a double, homer and three RBIs, and designated player Emily Mangiaratti (Amherst, MA/Amherst) went 4-for-4 with a double, stolen base and three runs scored.

Lynx started Jennifer Dorval (Franklin, NH/Franklin) was fantastic, going all six innings, striking out seven and limiting Finlandia to a run on five hits.

Dorval escaped a first inning jam, striking out the side to wiggle out of a one-out, second and third predicament to leave the bases loaded in the first.

Lesley upped its lead to 4-0 in the second, when a Mangiaratti line drive single up the middle and an India Slayback throwing error allowed Sarah Apgar (Andover, NJ/Lenape Valley) to score.

Mangiaratti continued her tear in the fourth, doubling home Maria Nazzaro (North Reading, MA/St. Mary's) from second on a double to the left-center field gap. After a Jessica Guevara (Nantucket, MA/Nantucket) sacrifice bunt, Mangiaratti raced home on a passed ball, upping her team's lead to 6-0.

A bases-loaded, four-pitch walk to Alex Lindbloom scored Rachelle Cable to make it a 6-1 game in the fourth, but Dorval induced an inning-ending ground out from Finlandia leadoff hitter Shannon Miller to strand the bases loaded.

Mangiaratti's fourth hit of the game sparked a two-out rally. The designated player singled with two down, swiped second base and came around on a Guevara opposite-field single. Guevara came around from first on a double from Molly Sarson (Sanford, ME/Sanford) who soon scored on a double from Durben. Lesley's three runs on four hits, all with two outs, upped the lead to 9-1 after six.

Dorval would end strong, striking out Miller and Slayback to end the game, improving her record to 2-1 on her freshman campaign and her Lynx to 3-3.

With the loss, Finlandia falls to 7-7.

Lesley wraps up its Florida trip tomorrow with a pair of night games at the Dot Richardson National Training Center, taking on Alvernia at 5:30 and Muhlenburg at 7:30.
