THE LEAD – In the Lesley softball season finale, the squad took on Bay Path University but unfortunately fell 10-9 in game one, and 14-0 in game two. Prior to the game, the Lynx honored their lone senior, Emma Hodgkins (Raymond, N.H.). Lesley University Athletics would like to thank Hodgkins for all her efforts for the Lesley softball program over her career!
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)
- Lesley started out the game fast by plating five runs in the opening frame highlighted by an RBI double from Shae Thomas (Clayton, N.C.) that made it 2-0 at the time. Later in the second, the Lynx bats continued to stay hot as the squad tacked on three more runs which included an RBI double off the bat of Madison Herbert (Milford, N.H.) that made it 8-0.
- Throughout the first three innings, Hodgkins was lights out as the senior did not allow a hit while also grabbing three strikeouts. However, Bay Path was finally able to get on the board with a two-run fourth thanks to a two-run RBI double from Jailyn Harrington.
- After another two-run fifth, the Wildcats cut the Lynx lead in half (8-4) and in the sixth, Bay Path grabbed its first lead of the afternoon thanks to a five-run inning when Sophie Verrengia RBI triple made it 9-8.
- The Lynx were able to respond in the bottom half of the frame thanks to a Jess O'Neill (Reading, Mass.) RBI single to center that plated Kari Sorensen (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) to make it 9-9 going into the seventh.
- In the bottom half of the seventh, Lesley had a great chance to win the game after the squad had runners on second and third with just one out. Unfortunately Bay Path pitcher Madison Sunderland was able to end the Lynx momentum by retiring the next two batters.
- As extra innings got underway, Bay Path once again took the lead back (10-9) thanks to a Madison Tessmer RBI single. Once again, Lesley had a quality chance in the eighth when Lauren Martin (Lexington, Mass.) reached on a fielder's choice with one out. Once again though, Sunderland silenced the Lesley bats by getting the next two out for the 10-9 win.
