THE LEAD – The Lesley University softball squad dropped a pair of non-conference decisions in Day 3 action at the Gene Cusic Classic in Naples, Fla., falling to St. Joseph's College (NY – Brooklyn) 6-0 and St. Thomas University (Fla.), 8-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1 vs. St. Joseph's)
- The Bears pushed two runs across in the first to play from ahead in the early contest, getting a big two-out, two-RBI single to right by Audrey Scott.
- After a scoreless second, St. Joseph's tacked on three more runs in the third with RBI singles from Vivian Garcia and Brielle Nelson to increase the lead to 5-0.
- Lesley put two runners on base in both the fourth, fifth and sixth innings as Leah St. John, Shae Thomas and Lauren Martin collected hits in the flurry but the Bears locked in when they needed to defensively and kept the Lynx scoreless in all three frames.
- The final run of the game came when Garcia scampered home in the seventh inning thanks to an LU wild pitch to account for the 6-0 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1 – St. Joseph's)
- Makena Burr earned her first win of the year in the circle with the complete-game shutout, registering nine K's and scattering six hits over 7.0 shutout innings.
- Senior Madison Herbert (0-3) suffered the loss working 4.0 innings and registering three K's before giving way to junior Isabella Moscoso who worked the final 3.0 frames, allowing just one run on two hits while picking up two strikeouts.
- LU junior Milana Rosazza notched her first collegiate hit for the Lynx with a swinging bunt single that found a hole between the pitcher, catcher and third baseman in the fourth inning.
- Moscoso and Hailey Scaturro drew walks for the Lynx who stranded nine baserunners in the setback.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2 vs. St. Thomas)
- The Bobcats got things started quickly with a leadoff triple by Ashley Ramon who plated the first run of the game on an RBI single to right by Arlene Sordo to make it 1-0 in the first. Later in the frame, Lesieli Joseph registered a two-RBI single through the right side to bump the lead to 3-0 which proved to be more than enough run support in the tilt.
- An RBI single by Joseph in the third moved the score to 4-0 before St. Thomas posted another three-run frame in the fourth to make it 7-0 with Joseph doing some more damage with an RBI double to right.
- Lesley recorded its only hit of the game in the fourth on a two-out single to right by Scaturro before Herbert worked a walk to put two runners on before Emily Escobar induced the third out of the inning on an unassisted groundout to first to end the threat.
- In the fifth, the Bobcats walked off on an RBI single up the middle by Sordo to move their margin to 8-0 and put the run-rule in play for the final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 2 – St. Thomas)
