THE LEAD – Lesley came up short on its final day at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla., falling to Westfield State and St. Joseph's College (NY – Brooklyn) on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1 vs. Westfield State)

  • The Owls collected five straight singles to open the action, scoring four in the first to set the tone in the third meeting between the programs on the week.
  • Westfield exploded for eight runs in the second to increase its lead to 12-0, highlighted by a ground-rule two-RBI double down the left field line by Ella Malanson.
  • WSU tacked on its final two runs in the third on RBI singles by Shayna Bakyn and Mackenzie Mike before Lesley junior pitcher Isabella Moscoso retired the side in order in the fourth for a 1-2-3 frame.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1 – Westfield State)

  • WSU exploded for a season-high 17 hits in the win and improve to 11-0 on the year for the best start in program history.
  • Cassidy Wallner (2-0) picked up the complete game shutout in the circle, scattering three hits to go along with four K's.
  • Moscoso, senior Madison Herbert, and junior Marissa De La Rosa all collected singles for the Lynx while Moscoso, Herbert, junior Lauren Marin and sophomore Leecy Cruz all reached base via a base on balls walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2 vs. St. Joseph's - NYBK)

  • Moscoso opened the action with a leadoff single to center for the Lynx before Leah St. John drew a walk to put two on with no out. St. Joseph's hurler Makena Burr worked out of the jam to keep Lesley off the scoreboard and give the SJC bats a chance to answer.
  • The Bears erupted for eight runs in both the first and third innings to cruise to an 18-0 win in the Florida finale for both programs.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 2 – Crown)

  • Burr (2-2) earned with win with the complete-game one-hit shutout, striking out five and walking just one.
  • Leah Magallanes paced the WSU offense going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Nicole Shultz, Vivian Garcia and Leila Heller all recorded two hits while Brielle Nelson drove in a game-high four RBI.
  • Moscoso worked 3 and a third innings for the Lynx, recording one strikeout.

  • The Lynx return North and take on Elms College on Sunday afternoon in Chicopee, Mass. with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 PM.
