THE LEAD - After a week off, the Lynx had their first games up north in a doubleheader at Salve Regina. The Lynx kept it close in the first game until a late-game rally gave the Seahawks the edge. Then in the second, it was Salve Regina the entire game; an exhausted Lynx squad was no match for their defense.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
-
The Lynx started the game by loading the bases with walks, but weren't able to bring anyone home.
-
In the 2nd, the Seahawks got a leadoff single, and an error brought her to second. The next batter singled and got the RBI.
-
The Seahawks kept it going in the 3rd, a batter singled, an error got her to second, and another single made it 2-0.
-
With a full count and two outs, Leecy Cruz drew a walk. She then stole second and got third off an error. She then scored to cut the deficit in half.
-
Salve Regina responded by getting a runner off a single. The next batter then hit a sac fly, and an error allowed her to run all the way home.
-
They did not let up. The following inning, the leadoff batter doubled, a flyout advanced her, and a single added to the lead.
-
In the 6th, once again, the leadoff batter got on, this time via a bunt. The next batter singled, and both players advanced on an error. One more single scored a run.
-
A fielder's choice where everyone was safe scored another run. A single and a wild pitch made the score 7-1
-
After the spark of a rally in the 7th, the Lynx ultimately fell.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 1)
-
Cruz did go 0 for 1 in the game, but she walked twice. She also stole the only base and scored the sole run.
-
Madison Herbert pitched the entire game for the second time this season. She allowed five earned runs while striking out two and allowing only a single walk. She leads the NAC in fewest walks allowed with four on the season.
-
For the Seahawks, Emily Cronin was untouchable on the mound. In her 3.0 innings, she only gave up a hit. She walked two but struck out 6.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2)
-
After pitching the entire first game, Herbert was put back on the mound. The Seahawks knew what to look for and put up a big first. The leadoff single then made it to second on an error, and a double brought her home.
-
The next batter singled and drove in a run. A single followed by a double scored another. A single scored two more, a single, then a triple put the Seahawks up 7-0 early.
-
Marissa De La Rosa singled to start off the first. Leila Chisholm hit a sac fly to move her up, and Lauren Martin reached second due to an error and drove in the run.
-
Despite the momentum, the leadoff batter in the bottom half walked on four pitches. The next batter singled on the first pitch, and after getting the following Seahawk in a full count, she doubled to score them both.
-
The next batter singled. The Lynx then walked a batter. The following batter doubled and scored two. A groundout scored one last run for the inning.
-
In the 3rd, the leadoff batter walked. An error put a second batter on. A double and a single each scored another run.
-
A single loaded the bases, then two more singles each scored another run. The Seahawks were up 17-1.
-
The exhausted Lynx were only able to muster up a single runner for the rest of the game, but left her stranded.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 2)
-
Eleni Vrahatis was the best hope for the Lynx against Salve's nearly unstoppable defense. She went 1 for 2 with a double.
-
For the Seahawks, Lillian Bridges was unstoppable. She went 4 for 4, hit five RBI's, and accounted for a run herself. She was a homer away from hitting for the cycle.
-
On the mound, Shea Murphy threw a complete 5-inning game. She allowed only three hits and one unearned run. She also struck out five.
