THE LEAD — Mount Holyoke College held Lesley University scoreless over the final 11:19 of regulation to come-from-behind and defeat the Lynx by a 45-41 final in NCAA Division III women's basketball action on Tuesday evening at Howard Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Shayla King's (Ramstein, Germany) free throw with 1:19 to play in the third gave Lesley a 43-39 advantage and the score held through the end of the quarter.
  • The Lynx went cold in the fourth and despite playing stellar defense and allowing just six points to the Lyons, their offense was nowhere to be found going 0-for-16 from the floor in the period.
  • Mount Holyoke took a 44-43 lead with 5:08 to play on a layup by Taryn White and over the next five minutes LU had eight shot attempts to regain the lead but they could not find the back of the net.
  • Alex Twomey connected on one of two free throws with 19 seconds left to make it a 45-43 score and in the final possession of the game, the Lynx had three shot attempts from close range but could not connect on the equalizer as the Lyons held on for the two-point victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • White led all scorers with 12 points to go along with 10 rebounds for a double-double while Twomey also recorded a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards for Mount Holyoke.
  • Savannah Gravitt (Richmond Hill, Ga.) and Abbie Price (Waco, Tex.) registered 11 points each, Price adding nine rebounds.
  • Lesley's Alawnah Dunda (Fort Ann, N.Y.) and MHC's Sofia Francisco each recorded 13 rebounds to share the game-high.
  • The Lyons owned a 57-43 rebounding edge (+14).
  • Both teams struggled from the field as the Lynx finished the night shooting 22.2% (12-54) while the Lyons were only marginally better at 23.6% (17-72).
