Maine Maritime Academy Mariners (14-7, 13-2 NAC)

Location: Castine, ME - Smith Gym

THE LEAD —  The Lynx headed to Maine in hopes of finding their first win of the year, while MMA entered the game looking to regain sole position of the NAC lead. The Mariners got right to work putting up big numbers in both the first and second quarters. Lesley couldn't keep pace. They shone early in the second half, but MMA's top-tier offense and defense sealed the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Maine Maritime got off to a quick start, hitting three threes within the opening minutes of the game.

  • MMA's defense was also on full display, only allowing the Lynx to net six points in the opening quarter.

  • Lesley responded by hitting their first four baskets in the second before allowing the Mariners to make a single one.

  • MMA did not take kindly, finishing out the first half by going on a 23-2 run, entering halftime up 49-12.

  • The Lynx came out of the locker room with determination, putting up their best offensive quarter of the game and allowing the least amount of points by MMA.

  • Despite that, there was little hope of a comeback going into the final quarter. MMA's defense did not let up, only allowing a single basket from Lesley in the final 10, a three from Shayla King.

  • The Mariners took home the win, 83-24.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Leila Chisholm led the Lynx in points, scoring 10 in her 39 minutes on the court. She was perfect from the free-throw line. She also grabbed three rebounds and recorded the team's sole block.

  • Madalynn Biagi also contributed with eight points, three rebounds, and a steal.

  • Lesley's 23 points are the fewest they've scored all year, and the least MMA has allowed this season.

  • For the Mariners, Savannah Ferguson put on a show, scoring 18, including four three-pointers and being perfect from the line. She also grabbed five rebounds, dished out three assists, and had a steal.

  • Hailey Blancard tied the team's season record for most assists, dishing out nine.
