THE LEAD – Lesley University picked up a huge point on Wednesday evening against No. 11 Brandeis University, registering a 1-1 road tie against the Judges in non-conference NCAA Division III women's soccer action at Gordon Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Though the No. 11 Judges dominated possession, outshooting Lesley, 35-6, the Lynx were able to take advantage of their best opportunity. Sophomore Elsie Koehler (Portland, Ore.) ripped a pass from Bethany Slivka (Berkley, Mass.) from outside the box into the upper left netting in the 28th minute to break the ice. It was Lesley's first shot on goal of the game.
- Just over four minutes later in the 32nd minute, the Judges equalized when senior Caroline Alcock (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) headed home her third goal of the season, on an assist by first-year Moira Koleno (Chicago, Ill./Whitney M. Young Magnet).
- The Judges dominated play from there, including outshooting Lesley, 20-3, in the second half.
- The Lynx got an excellent performance from senior goalkeeper Madison Reed (Burlingame, Calif.), who made 11 stops in the effort, while the defense cleared two balls off the line.
- Brandeis had its opportunities to take the lead, but Reed denied Brandeis sophomore Peterly Leroy (Malden, Mass./Prospect Hill Academy Charter School), on a breakaway in the 86th minute to preserve the tie score.
- Brandeis senior goalkeeper Amaya Logan (Jacksonville, Fla./Creekside) finished with one save and one goal allowed.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The draw marks the first time Lesley has picked up a point vs. a nationally ranked opponent since the 2018 campaign whey LU posted a 1-0 win over Brandeis when the Judges were ranked No. 10 in the United Soccer Coaches national poll.
- The 11 saves for Reed match her single-game career-high, last accomplishing the feat on Sept. 7, 2024 vs. #11 MIT.
- The four draws for Lesley is a new single-season high, surpassing the previous high of three ties which the program recorded in the 2010, 2017 and 2024 campaigns.
- The Lynx have allowed one or fewer goals in six of seven contests this season and currently have a 0.60 goals against average in road matches this season.
- The Judges had a 14-0 advantage in corner kicks.
- This was the first non-blemish for Brandeis against Lesley since 2018, as their record moves to 12-1-2 all-time against the Lynx.
UP NEXT
- Lesley returns to NAC action this weekend when they host SUNY Delhi on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Minuteman High School with a 12:00 PM kickoff.
- The Judges head to Hartford, Conn., the same day to meet the Trinity (Conn.) College Bantams at 12 noon.
