THE LEAD – Sophomore forward Leecy Cruz (San Antonio, Texas) notched the game's only goal to lift the Lesley University women's soccer program to a 1-0 victory over SUNY Delhi on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Minuteman High School
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was quiet through the first 35 minutes of play before the Lynx surged heading into halftime. Sophomore Elsie Koehler (Portland, Ore.) nearly found the back of the net in the 29th minute of play but Morgan Krouse made a fully extended diving side to the keeper's right to keep the game scoreless.
- Minutes later, sophomore Lily Wright (Haymarket, Va.) took a left footed shot from the top corner of the box that again forced Krouse to make another difficult save to her right but this time Cruz was there for a tap-in rebound to give Lesley a 1-0 lead with 3:08 to play in the half.
- The Lynx outshot the Broncos by an 11-1 margin at the break.
- In the second stanza, Lesley protected the one-goal advantage, playing a controlled style of play that didn't allow Delhi to have many scoring opportunities.
- Delhi's final shot on goal came in the73rd minute by Jordan DeNinno but it was denied by LU senior Madison Reed (Burlingame, Calif.) to preserve the 1-0 shutout win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Lesley held the advantage in shots, 17-2, and 10-2 in shots on goal.
