THE LEAD – Another strong defensive showing powered Lesley University to a North Atlantic Conference shutout win as the Lynx downed SUNY Cobleskill, 5-0, Sunday afternoon in women's soccer action on the Minuteman High School field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • It took some time for the Lynx to get into the offensive mindset but in the 35th minute senior Zoe Curtaz (Novato, Calif.) opened the scoring with the help of a Leecy Cruz (San Antonio, Texas) assist to make it 1-0.
  • The Lynx doubled the lead to 2-0 just three minutes later as senior Kylie Chagnon (Framingham, Mass.) found the back of the net thanks to a nifty assist by Bethany Slivka (Berkley, Mass.).
  • Chagnon gave LU a 3-0 just before the half with her second goal of the day receiving a ball on the left wing before cutting in goal side to clear space and create the scoring opportunity at the 41:51 marker for her third goal of the season.
  • Cruz got into he scoring column in the 71st minute with her third goal of the campaign and second in as many days to make it 4-0 before first year Gretel Davis (Yorba Lindo, Calif.) capped the day with a tally in the 72nd minute to account for the 5-0 final. Junior Chelsea McIntosh (Martinsburg, W. Va.) notched the assist on the play for her first collegiate point.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Lesley outshot MMA by a 47-1 margin with the Tigers only shot attempt in the match coming in the final minute of the game.
  • First year keeper Lloy Bartolotti (Portland, Ore.) earned the shutout win to improve to 3-0 on the year and has still not allowed a goal in 270 minutes of action.
  • First year Samantha Fausti was strong in net for the Fighting Tigers making 16 saves, a season-high.
