THE LEAD – Lesley University posted a key 6-1 victory over Simmons University in Wednesday afternoon's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's tennis showdown at the Daly Field Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lynx earned the ever-important doubles point thanks to a dominant performance in No. 2 doubles by senior Jessica Legendre (Leesville, La.) and sophomore Anna Stamp (Belchertown, Mass.) in a 6-0 decision. Despite dropping No. 1 doubles action, Lesley got the No. 3 doubles win thanks to an ITA procedural ruling to grant first years Hayley Jones (Berthoud, Colo.) and Emily Laperriere (Tewksbury, Mass.) the win by decision.
  • Legendre fought for a 6-3, 6-1 No. 2 singles win while junior Lucy Boyce (Marshfield, Mass.) battled for a 6-4, 6-2 win in No. 3 singles.
  • Stamp played a complete match in No. 4 singles earning a 6-2, 6-1 win while Jones kept the good play going in the No. 5 affair with a 7-5, 6-3 victory.
  • Laperriere was credited with the No. 6 singles victory via a similar ITA procedural ruling in her Lesley debut.
  • Simmone Emilie Lapointe helped the Sharks avoid the sweep by taking a 6-3, 6-3 win in No. 1 singles over LU junior Mary Osucha (Knoxville, Tenn.).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The win snaps a six-match losing skid for the Lynx dating back to last season including five consecutive 4-3 decisions to open the 2025 slate.
  • Legendre moves to 12-0 on the year in her combined singles and doubles play.
  • Simmons was tabbed the top team in the 2025 NAC Women's Tennis Preseason Poll with 41 points and three first-place votes, just in front of the Lynx who had 40 points and a pair of first place votes.

UP NEXT

  • Lesley hits the courts again on Saturday, Sept. 20 for a non-conference bout vs. Salem State slated for noontime in Salem, Mass.
  • The Sharks heads to Worcester, Mass. on the same day to face Clark University at 12:00 PM on the Corash Tennis Courts.
