THE LEAD — Lesley University fell in a pair of NCAA Division III women's volleyball matches to Rhode Island College, 3-0, and host Salem State University, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at the O'Keefe Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Match 1 vs. RIC)
- Korinne Hall-Johnson (North Brunswick, N.J.) served up an ace early in the match to make it 2-1 before Rhode Island reeled off an unprecedented 23 straight points to close out the first set.
- The Lynx led early in set two with a 5-3 edge before back-to-back attacking errors lifted RIC ahead for good at 6-5. Lesley kept the action close, trailing by a point at the 15-14 marker but the Anchorwomen used a 7-3 spurt to closer out the set with a 25-19 win.
- Hall-Johnson posted a kill midway through the third set to pull the Lynx ahead 7-5 and junior Rayann Fatahi (Arlington, Mass.) slammed home a winner to even the score at 8-8 before Rhode Island put together a 7-1 run to take control and pull off the 25-15 win for the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Match 1 vs. RIC)
- Hall-Johnson and sophomore Abbie Price (Waco, Texas) led the Lynx with a team-high four kills each. Price added two solo blocks.
- Junior Shea Thomas (Clayton, N.C.) collected eight assists, five digs and an ace.
- RIC's Salina Marines led all players with seven kills.
- The Anchorwomen hit a gaudy .600 % (9-0-16) in the opening set of the action.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Match 2 vs. SSU)
- Sophomore Alawnah Dunda (Fort Ann, N.Y.) posted a kill early to give LU a 3-2 lead and then after falling behind, Fatahi collected a kill to help the Lynx regain an 11-10 lead midway through the opening set. Ultimately, the Vikings rallied to post a 25-19 win.
- Price put Lesley on top 5-4 in set two before Salem State rattled off 13 consecutive points behind the service game of Ellie Hernsdorf to secure a 25-11 set two victory.
- Despite playing well down the stretch in the final set, a 9-0 blitz in the middle of the third frame lifted the hosts to a comfortable 25-12 win to take the match, 3-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Match 2 vs. SSU)
- Dunda paced LU with a team-high six kills, adding an ace, assist and dig.
- LU sophomore Ariel Udell (Lexington, Mass.) recorded a game-high 11 digs while Hall-Johnson added nine digs to go along with five assists and three kills.
- Lesley posted 10 kills in the opening set, marking a single-set high through six matches in the 2025 campaign.
