THE LEAD — Lesley University picked up its first set victory of the year in a 3-1 setback to Elms College on Thursday evening in non-conference Women's Volleyball action at Picknelly Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lynx fought early on as a service ace by Korinne Hall-Johnson (North Brunswick, N.J.)  made it 8-7 but the Blazers were efficient in a 25-16 win.
  • Lesley never trailed in Set 2 and put down 12 kills including five in the frame from sophomore Alawnah Dunda (Fort Ann, N.Y.) to lift LU to the 25-20 win, marking their first set triumph of the campaign.
  • Elms regrouped and raced out to a 12-3 advantage in Set 3, never allowing the Lynx to get back in rhythm, taking the stanza by a 25-13 score.
  • The sides traded points early on to a 4-4 score before the hosts used an ace from Alyssa Moore to take control for good, riding out a 25-16 win for the match.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Dunda finished with a career and match-high nine kills while junior Shae Thomas (Clayton, N.C.) matched the kill total with nine, adding 16 digs.
  • Hall-Johnson posted 20 digs, marking the second consecutive 20+ dig night, adding three assists and three aces.
  • Mariah Febo (Boston, Mass.) passed out 19 assists, a new career-high, adding 10 digs for a double-double.
  • Jessica Brassil (Epping, N.H.) chipped in with 11 digs, a career-high.

  • Lesley returns to action on Saturday, October 11 for a non-conference tri-match at Fitchburg State University where they'll take on MCLA at 1:00 PM followed by the host Falcons at 3:00 PM
  • EC hosts NEC and Western New England the same day at 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
