THE LEAD — The Lesley women's volleyball program dropped two non-conference matches Saturday afternoon falling to MCLA, 3-0, before suffering a 3-1 setback to Fitchburg State to wrap the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Match 1 vs. MCLA)

  • The Trailblazers raced out to a 10-1 cushion before using a 9-1 flurry to close out the set in a 25-10 win, hitting .250 in the frame.
  • The Lynx played their best set of the match in the middle frame, leading 4-1 early and staying even until a 10-10 tie midway through the action but ultimately MCLA put together several mini runs to pull out a 25-17 victory.
  • LU stormed out to a 7-4 lead in the final frame but the Trailblazers regrouped for 14 straight points behind the service game of Tristin Hedges to hang on for a 25-11 win for the sweep.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Match 1 vs. MCLA)

  • Sophomore Korinne Hall-Johnson (North Brunswick, N.J.) recorded a match-high 15 digs while junior Shea Thomas (Clayton, N.C.) paced Lesley's offensive effort with four kills and an ace.
  • Payton Yung led all players with six kills for MCLA
  • Madison Maloof and Olivia Grob chipped in with 12 digs each for the Trailblazers in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Match 2 vs. FSU)

  • Lesley scored the first two points of the match but FSU used an 8-2 spurt to close the set in a 25-14 victory in set 1
  • Thomas gave LU a brief 8-7 lead following an ace in set 2 but the Falcons responded with six straight points to take the lead for good in a 25-14 final.
  • In a back and forth third set, the Falcons looked poised to sweep the Lynx leading 18-14 before Lesley rallied to tie the match at 22, scoring the final six points of the set including a pair of kills by junior Rayann Fatahi (Arlington, Mass.) and the set winner by sophomore Alawnah Dunda (Fort Anne, N.Y.) in a 25-22 LU win.
  • Despite holding an early lead in set 4, Lesley was unable to complete the match-comeback as FSU used a 9-0 blitz mid-set to put the match away in a 25-11 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Match 2 vs. FSU)

  • Dunda finished with six kills while Thomas added four kills to go along with 14 digs.
  • Mariah Febo (Boston, Mass.) registered 12 assists while Hall-Johnson remained strong defensively with a match-high 25 digs.
  • Gabrielle Griffiths led all players with 12 kills for FSU while teammate Stephanie Sardella registered 13 digs, a team-high.
