THE LEAD — After picking up a 25-22 opening set win, Lesley University eventually dropped a 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-13) decision to Anna Maria College in non-conference women's volleyball action on Thursday evening at Minuteman gymnasium.  

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lynx fell behind 7-2 early in the match but used a 6-0 flurry behind the strong service play from Shae Thomas (Clayton, N.C) to pull ahead 10-9 as the junior served up four aces during the blitz. The sides traded points all the way to a 22-22 score and then the hosts rallied for to take the set 25-22 with Thomas registering the kill to end the set.
  • The AMCats regrouped and rushed out to an 11-4 lead in the second set. Lesley pulled to within three at 11-8 but never any closer as Anna Maria evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-18 win.
  • The visitors kept the momentum in the third set, starting the frame with a 7-1 lead and opening it up by as many as 10 points (12-2). LU battled back and clawed to within two (14-12) but went cold as Anna Maria ended the set on an 11-5 surge to pick up a 25-17 win and pull ahead on the match, 2-1.
  • AMC never trailed in the final frame, posting the 25-13 win to take the 3-1 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Vanessa Guimaraes and Lauren Decoteau combined for 25 kills to lead the AMC attack. Guimaraes added a match-high 14 digs.
  • Thomas ended the match with a team-high six kills, 11 digs and a match-high five aces.
  • Sophomore Korinne Hall-Johnson (North Brunswick, N.J.) tallied a team-high 13 digs for LU.
  • The AMCat victory snapped a 16-match losing skid.

UP NEXT

  • Lesley wraps up the 2025 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 1 when they host UMaine-Presque Isle at noon in NAC action.
  • AMC is idle until Tuesday, Nov. 4 when they host Rhode Island College at 6:00 PM.
