THE LEAD — The Lesley University women's volleyball program closed out the 2025 campaign with a pair of 3-0 setbacks to UMaine-Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon action.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Match 1)

  • The Owls raced out to a 5-0 cushion and never trailed in the first set to jump ahead to a quick 25-14 win.
  • The Lynx used a pair of UMPI errors to start the second set ahead 2-0 but the visitors regrouped with a 7-1 spurt to take control. They led 24-11 before Lesley put together a late rally but ultimately held on by a 25-18 final.
  • UMPI dominated the action early in set three, jumping in front 15-1 and using the large advantage to cruise to the 25-16 final and 3-0 sweep.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Match 1)

  • Jade Anspach led all players with 11 kills for UMPI while Brooker Gardner dished out 29 assists.
  • Shae Thomas (Clayton, N.C.) led LU with six kills while Korinne Hall-Johnson (North Brunswick, N.J.) collected a match-high 17 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Match 2)

  • A service ace by Thomas gave Lesley a 6-4 lead but the Owls flipped the score with four straight points to pull ahead for good in the opening set, recording the 25-15 win.
  • The Lynx led early again in set two at 5-3 but another 4-0 flurry by UMPI gave the Owls the lead which they wouldn't relinquish in a 25-17 final.
  • Set three wasn't much different as Lesley pulled ahead early, taking a 4-1 lead on a kill from Alawnah Dunda (Fort Ann, N.Y.) but five consecutive UMPI points killed the momentum. The Lynx were able to tie the score at 11-11 but an immediate 7-0 blitz was the KO punch that put Lesley's season on ice.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Match 2)

  • Thomas and Anspach led each squad with seven kills each.
  • Hall-Johnson secured a match-high 19 digs while three Owls were in double-figures in digs as Maubi Mateo and Rylie Kolkow picked up 13 each while Brianna Bolhuis added 12.
